Options for restoring your smile at Melko Dental in Sunnyvale, California

Many people want to change the appearance of their smiles or ensure that the restorative dental care they receive is picture-perfect. Whether it's whitening discolored teeth, closing a gap, or straightening crooked teeth, Dr. Shamiram Melko and her team are equipped with the skills, passion, and technology to give you a smile you're proud of.

Dental implants

The emergence of dental implants has provided a far superior method for replacing teeth in a conservative way that does not cause any compromise or damage to the other teeth. Dr. Melko in Mountain View expertly places high-tech and long-lasting dental implants. With a bridge replacement, adjacent teeth must have some of the sound tooth structure compromised while being prepped to use as anchors. With dental implants, this is not necessary. A dental implant is an artificial root placed in the jaw bone in the area of the missing tooth. The artificial root is made of titanium which is highly compatible with the natural tissues of the mouth and has the ability to successfully integrate with the surrounding bone tissue. The integrated titanium root is now very stable and provides a strong foundation for the crown to be placed. The result we achieve in our Mountain View office is a complete replacement of both the root and the visible portion of the tooth, which looks, feels, and performs like a natural tooth. Implant-supported bridge

Another common use of dental implants is to place them in multiples distributed along a full arch (upper or lower) in cases where there are multiple missing teeth. In this way, the implanted titanium roots anchor a full dental bridge or replacement set of teeth, providing very secure support for the bridge. There is no movement or instability in the bridge as is the case with traditional dentures. Implant-supported restorations have a very high success rate and typically last many years.

Restorative crowns

When a large portion of the tooth is destroyed or compromised, we will provide a full or partial coverage restoration or crown. The crown provides proper retention and support to achieve a long-term restoration of the compromised tooth. We use zirconia crowns for the back teeth and beautiful ceramic, E-max crowns for the front teeth. Both are strong, durable, long-lasting, and have a natural, esthetic appearance. As with any restorative procedure, we provide a durable solution as well as match your natural tooth translucency and color.

Restorative bridge

A bridge is three or more crowns connected to each other and placed to replace a missing tooth in the middle. When creating a dental bridge, we commonly use the neighboring teeth of the missing tooth as anchors to support the bridge. Although dental bridges are sometimes still placed, they were mostly used in the past before the emergence of dental implants, which offer a much higher standard of treatment for replacing a missing tooth.

Dr. Melko and her staff are great. They are professional, thoughtful, and helpful. What separates Dr. Melko from other dentists I have gone to is her transparency and patience. She will take the time to explain the procedures and consequences so one can make an informed decision. I have been going to the same location for over 30 years. During that period, there have been 4 dentists. Dr. Melko is by far the best.
